SDG AcademyRashid Ismail Khalidi, born in 1948 in New York City, is the Edward Said Professor of Modern Arab Studies at Columbia University and a preeminent historian of the Middle East. His academic journey began at Yale University where he earned his BA in 1970, followed by a D.Phil. from Oxford in 1974. Throughout his distinguished career, Khalidi has authored numerous influential works including "The Hundred Years' War on Palestine," "Palestinian Identity: The Construction of Modern National Consciousness," and "The Iron Cage." He served as an advisor to the Palestinian delegation during the Madrid and Washington peace negotiations from 1991 to 1993, and was editor of the Journal of Palestine Studies from 2002 to 2020. His scholarship has earned significant recognition, including the Albert Hourani Book Award for "Palestinian Identity." Beyond his academic work, Khalidi has contributed to major publications like The New York Times and has held teaching positions at the University of Chicago, American University of Beirut, and Georgetown University, establishing himself as one of America's foremost scholars on Middle Eastern history and Palestinian studies.
