University System of MarylandRandy Hansen is a distinguished educator and leader serving as Professor and Program Chair of Learning Design and Technology at the University of Maryland Global Campus. His career spans over two decades in education, beginning as a K-6 English language teacher before advancing through roles including district technology coordinator and faculty member at institutions like Johns Hopkins University and Discovery Education. Currently serving as Acting Vice Dean in UMGC's Department of Education, he leads academic programs and faculty development. His research focuses on innovative online instructional design, technology's role in learner engagement, and effective professional learning experiences. His excellence has been widely recognized through awards including selection as a Top 30 Technologists, Transformers and Trailblazers in 2015, ISTE's Making IT Happen award in 2016, and UMGC's Presidential Award in 2018 for extraordinary contributions to the university. He maintains active leadership in educational technology as Treasurer on the Board of Directors for the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE).
