His academic journey includes an MA in Communications, Economics and Computer Science (2003) and PhD in Computer Science (2008) from TU Dresden. His research spans digital forensics, cryptocurrencies, cyber insurance, and privacy-enhancing technologies, with over 14,000 citations. His influential work includes co-authoring seminal papers on Bitcoin economics and cybercrime costs. Currently a BIS Research Fellow exploring Central Bank Digital Currency design, he recently completed a sabbatical at MIT's Digital Currency Initiative studying CBDC privacy.
