Qian Xu has established herself as a prominent figure in maternal and child health at Fudan University, where she serves as a professor, doctoral supervisor, and director of the maternal and child health teaching and research section. Her influence extends globally through her role as director of Fudan University's Institute of Global Health and her past membership on the World Health Organization's Scientific and Technical Advisory Committee for Reproductive Health and Research (2012-2017). As deputy director of the Women's Health Branch of the Chinese Preventive Medicine Association, she plays a crucial role in shaping national health policies.
