Professor Nat Waran is a prominent figure in the field of animal welfare, currently serving as a Professor of One Welfare at the Eastern Institute of Technology in New Zealand. She was formerly the Jeanne Marchig Chair of Animal Welfare Education at the University of Edinburgh, where she also held the position of Inaugural Director of the Jeanne Marchig International Centre for Animal Welfare Education. With a Zoology degree from Glasgow University and a PhD from Cambridge University, Professor Waran has dedicated her career to advancing animal welfare through education and research. She established the first postgraduate master's program in Applied Animal Behaviour and Animal Welfare at Edinburgh University and continues to influence policy and improve animal welfare standards globally. Her courses, including Animal Behaviour and Welfare and The Truth About Cats and Dogs, aim to enhance understanding and compassion towards animals through education.
