Tim Jacoby is a professor and co-founder of the Humanitarian and Conflict Response Institute at the University of Manchester. He earned his PhD and completed a Post-Doctoral Fellowship funded by the Economic and Social Research Council at the University of York before joining Manchester in 2003. His research primarily investigates state development in Turkey and encompasses broader themes such as political violence, civil society, Islam, nationalism, and post-conflict reconstruction. With over 25 published articles in international journals, he has served as a guest editor for various prominent publications, including Disasters and International Studies Review. Jacoby is also the author of several influential works, including Social Power and the Turkish State (2004), Disaster Management and Civil Society (2005, with Alpaslan Özerdem), Understanding Conflict & Violence (2008), Peace in Turkey 2023 (2013, with Alpaslan Özerdem), and The NGO-Military Complex in Afghanistan (2016, with Eric James).
