Stuart Lyon is a Professor of Corrosion Control at the University of Manchester, where he has dedicated over 30 years to teaching corrosion engineering and materials science at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. He has also instructed the “Corrosion Science and Engineering” industrial short course for 25 years. A former President of the UK Institute of Corrosion, Stuart has played a crucial role in raising awareness of corrosion issues in industry and promoting educational opportunities in this field. Originally from Paisley, Scotland, he received his BA from the University of Cambridge (Trinity College) in 1979 and his PhD in 1983. After a brief period in industry, he joined the Corrosion and Protection Centre at the former University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology (UMIST). Since 2012, he has held the AkzoNobel Chair of Corrosion Control in the School of Materials, also serving as Director of Research from 2013 to 2016. In addition to his roles in academia, he was CEO of Correx Ltd, the trading subsidiary of ICorr, from 2008 to 2012, where he helped implement the Industrial Coatings and Applicator Training Scheme (ICATS) in the paint contracting sector. Stuart is actively involved with the Corrosion Committee of the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining (IoMMM) and has been the Editor-in-Chief of Corrosion Science Engineering and Technology since 2006. He also contributed as a volume editor for the 4th edition of Shreir's Corrosion, a leading textbook in corrosion science and engineering.
