Professor Lindy Li Mark is a Professor Emerita of Anthropology with a rich academic background, having earned her M.A. in Anthropology of Music from Northwestern University in 1955 and her Ph.D. in Anthropology from the University of California, Berkeley, in 1974. She served as a Professor of Anthropology and East Asian Studies at California State University, East Bay from 1973 to 2003, and has been a visiting professor at the University of California, Berkeley in both 2006 and 2008. With extensive research experience in social-cultural anthropology and a focus on Kunqu musical drama, Professor Li has made significant contributions to the field. Her most recent publication, “From Page to Stage: Exploring Some Mysteries of Kunqu Music and Its Melodic Characteristics,” appeared in the CHINOPERL Journal of Chinese Oral and Performing Literature in 2013. Through her dedicated scholarship and translations, she has played a vital role in promoting the understanding and appreciation of Kunqu, thereby enriching the discourse on Chinese performing arts.
