Indian Statistical InstituteProbal Chaudhuri is a Professor in the Theoretical Statistics and Mathematics Unit at the Indian Statistical Institute (ISI) in Kolkata, India. He completed his Bachelor of Statistics (Hons.) in 1983 and his Master of Statistics in 1985 from ISI, followed by a Ph.D. in Statistics from the University of California, Berkeley, in 1988. Dr. Chaudhuri has held various academic positions, including Assistant Professor at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and Lecturer and Associate Professor at ISI before becoming a full Professor in 1997. He has received numerous accolades, including the B. M. Birla Science Award in Mathematics, the National Award in Statistics from the Government of India, and several fellowships from prestigious academies such as the Indian Academy of Sciences and the Institute of Mathematical Statistics (IMS). Dr. Chaudhuri has also served as an editor for various statistical journals and was an invited speaker at significant international conferences, including the International Congress of Mathematicians in 2010.
