Massachusetts Institute of TechnologyPolina Golland serves as the Sunlin (1996) and Priscilla Chou Professor in MIT's Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, where she leads the Medical Vision Group at the Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (CSAIL). Born in 1971, this Israeli-American computer scientist completed her BSc and MSc in Computer Science at Technion before earning her PhD from MIT in 2001. Her groundbreaking research focuses on developing statistical analysis methods for characterizing biological processes through medical imaging, from MRI to microscopy. Her work spans computer vision, machine learning, and biomedical image analysis, with particular emphasis on shape modeling, predictive modeling, and visualization of statistical models. Her excellence in both research and teaching has earned her numerous honors, including election as Fellow of the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering in 2021, the Ruth and Joel Spira Award for Excellence in Teaching, and the MICCAI Society Fellowship.
