KU LeuvenPhilip De Man serves as a Senior Researcher at the Leuven Centre for Global Governance Studies and Visiting Professor in the Advanced Master of Space Studies program at KU Leuven, where he teaches courses on space law, policy, business, and management. His expertise spans international space law and policy, with significant contributions to understanding space resource exploitation and military uses of outer space. After completing his Master of Laws at the University of Antwerp (2001-2006), he gained valuable experience through internships at the Permanent Representation of Belgium to the United Nations and the Association of Defence Counsel at the International Criminal Tribunal for Yugoslavia. His professional roles have included serving as a Core Expert for the International Space Law Group in the Manual on International Law Applicable to Military Uses of Outer Space (MILAMOS) Project and representing Belgium at the United Nations Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space. His research focuses on space law, international legal frameworks, and the interpretation of fundamental principles of international space law, with numerous publications in prestigious journals and books, including work on the non-appropriation principle for space resource exploitation and the prevention of armed conflicts in space.
