Heck, PhD, is Professor of Theology in the Department of Theology and Religious Studies at Georgetown University, where he specializes in the history of religious thought, with particular attention to its humanistic dimensions, spirituality and ethics, political theology, skepticism, and the role of emotions across Jewish, Christian, and Islamic traditions. He earned his doctorate in Islamic Studies from the University of Chicago and was a member of Princeton University’s Society of Fellows from 2001 to 2004. Professor Heck is the founding director of the Study of Religions across Civilizations (SORAC), which fosters theological exchange among students and scholars globally, and maintains the blog A Nation in Need of Theology (paulheck.org) to reflect on the significance of religiosity in contemporary societal debates.
