Delft University of TechnologyPatricia Osseweijer serves as Full Professor and Group Leader of Biotechnology and Society at TU Delft's Department of Biotechnology, where she bridges technological innovation with societal development for sustainable and circular bioeconomy. Her research spans responsible biobased innovation, public engagement, and sustainable development, with particular focus on integrating societal perspectives into biotechnology solutions. As Flagship Manager of the BE-Basic program "Societal embedding of a Sustainable Biobased Society" and coordinator for BE-Basic activities in Brazil and Malaysia, she has significantly influenced international biotechnology development. Her work encompasses multiple disciplines, from designing novel value chains for bioproducts to analyzing societal impacts of biotechnology innovations. With over 2,900 citations to her research, she has made substantial contributions to understanding public perceptions of biotechnology, responsible research and innovation in the bio-economy, and sustainable development practices. Through her leadership in organizing international courses like "Bioethics and public perceptions" at Oxford and serving as advisor to the Brazilian Bioenergy program, she continues to shape the dialogue between technological advancement and societal needs, encouraging engineers to incorporate societal perspectives into their work while promoting sustainable solutions in biotechnology and water management.
