Catholic University of LouvainPascal Van Hentenryck serves as the A. Russell Chandler III Chair and Professor at Georgia Tech's School of Industrial and Systems Engineering, where he directs the NSF AI Institute for Advances in Optimization. After completing his PhD from the University of Namur in 1986, he has established himself as a pioneer in constraint programming and stochastic optimization. His career includes significant positions at Brown University, NICTA in Australia, and the University of Michigan before joining Georgia Tech. His contributions include developing influential optimization systems like CHIP and OPL (now an IBM product), which have been commercially successful for over two decades. As a Fellow of both AAAI and INFORMS, his work has earned numerous accolades including the INFORMS ICS Award, ACP Award for Research Excellence, and honorary doctorates from the Universities of Louvain and Nantes. His current research combines machine learning, optimization, and privacy, focusing on applications in energy systems, mobility, supply chains, and manufacturing
