Leading French Scholar of English Literature and Oscar Wilde Expert
Dr. Pascal Aquien serves as Professor of 19th and 20th-century English Literature at Sorbonne Université and Vice President of its Scientific Council. After studying at the École Normale Supérieure of Saint-Cloud, he has established himself as a leading authority on Oscar Wilde and English Romantic poetry. His scholarly contributions include numerous critical editions and translations of Wilde's works, notably editing Wilde's complete works for the prestigious Bibliothèque de la Pléiade (Gallimard, 1996). His major publications include a significant biography "Oscar Wilde: Les mots et les songes" (2006) and scholarly works on W.H. Auden and "The Picture of Dorian Gray." As editor of the Journal English Studies and through his extensive translation work, Aquien has played a crucial role in bridging Anglo-French literary scholarship, particularly in poetry and Victorian literature. His research spans English Romantic poetry, Victorian literature, and modern poetry, with special emphasis on the intersection of aesthetics and literary form.
