A Distinguished Scholar of Tang-Song Chinese History
Dr. Pak-sheung Ng, formerly of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University's General Education Centre, has established himself as a leading authority on Tang-Song Chinese history. After completing his BA and MPhil at the Chinese University of Hong Kong and PhD from the University of Arizona in 1997, he has made significant contributions to understanding the cultural and political transitions of medieval China. His research portfolio spans political, social, military, and minority studies, with particular emphasis on the Tang-Song period. His groundbreaking work on cultural interactions between the Song Dynasty and Southern Tang, aristocratic families in the Jianghuai region, and the Tang-Song transition has appeared in prestigious journals. His research has notably illuminated the complex dynamics of aristocratic families during the Tang-Song interregnum and their eventual decline, challenging traditional perspectives on this crucial period of Chinese history. Beyond medieval Chinese studies, he has expanded his research interests to include Hong Kong history, demonstrating his commitment to both classical and contemporary historical scholarship.
