Orestis Malaspinas

Orestis Malaspinas is a senior research associate at the University of Geneva, specializing in numerical modeling of viscoelastic fluid flows. He earned his PhD from the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne in 2009, focusing on advanced computational techniques. Following his doctoral studies, he spent two years at Université Pierre et Marie Curie in Paris, where he contributed to turbulence modeling and the development of LaBS, an industrial fluid dynamics solver.At the University of Geneva, Dr. Malaspinas has worked on blood-flow simulations and modeling clot formation in aneurysms. He has been actively involved in developing Palabos, a massively parallel open-source lattice Boltzmann library, which is widely used in scientific research. Additionally, he is a founding member of FlowKit, a company that provides software solutions for industrial fluid dynamics challenges. Dr. Malaspinas teaches the course "Simulation and Modeling of Natural Processes" on Coursera, where he introduces students to various methodologies for simulating natural phenomena through computational techniques.
