École Polytechnique Fédérale de LausanneNicolas Chiaruttini is a Scientist at the BioImaging and Optics Platform (BIOP) at École polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), where he serves as both a microscopist and image analyst. After obtaining his Ph.D. in biophysics in 2011, he pursued postdoctoral research in biochemistry before joining BIOP in 2018. At EPFL, he teaches Image Processing for Life Science, a course that runs from September to December each year, focusing on teaching image processing with applications in life sciences. The course combines 14 hours of lectures with 28 hours of exercises, aiming to enable students to develop independent workflows for solving image-processing challenges. His dual role as microscopist and image analyst allows him to bridge the gap between image acquisition and analysis, providing comprehensive expertise in biomedical imaging.
