Michele Decker

Michele R. Decker, ScD, MPH, is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Population, Family, and Reproductive Health at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. A social epidemiologist, her research examines gender-based violence, such as sexual assault, intimate partner violence, and sex trafficking, with a focus on prevention and its impacts on sexual and reproductive health, including STI/HIV risks and unintended pregnancies. Her work prioritizes marginalized populations, including urban women, adolescents, and those engaged in transactional sex or sex work. Dr. Decker combines quantitative and qualitative methods in her research, spanning domestic settings and regions such as South and Southeast Asia and Eastern Europe/Central Asia. She also advances clinic-based interventions to address violence-related health outcomes.
