Professor Michel Kazatchkine is a prominent figure in global health, particularly known for his extensive work in the fight against HIV/AIDS, spanning over 30 years as a physician, scientist, advocate, policy-maker, and diplomat. He served as the Executive Director of the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria from 2007 to 2012, where he played a crucial role in expanding the organization's efforts to combat these diseases. Following this, he was appointed as the UN Secretary General’s Special Envoy on HIV/AIDS in Eastern Europe and Central Asia from 2012 to 2017. A long-time advocate for harm reduction strategies, Kazatchkine has been a member of the Global Commission on Drug Policy since its inception in 2010. Currently, he is a Senior Fellow at the Global Health Center of the Graduate Institute in Geneva, where he teaches on global health diplomacy and drug policy.
