Leading Expert in Forest Conservation and Community Resource Management

Wageningen University & ResearchMercy Owusu-Ansah serves as Director of Tropenbos Ghana since 2018, where she brings extensive experience in natural resource management and community-based conservation. After completing her training in forestry, she has established herself as a key expert in developing sustainable livelihood schemes and facilitating multi-stakeholder dialogues. Her work focuses on promoting biodiversity conservation through community engagement and integrated landscape approaches. As a co-author of forest management plans and contributor to the Forest Connect alliance, she has helped shape understanding of small and medium forest enterprises in Ghana. Through her leadership at Tropenbos Ghana, she continues to advance sustainable forest management while emphasizing gender-inclusive approaches to natural resource governance. Her expertise particularly shines in facilitating community-based conservation initiatives, demonstrated through her successful implementation of biodiversity projects and development of sustainable livelihood programs. Her current work with the Cocoa and Forests Initiative demonstrates her commitment to combining conservation goals with community development, as she helps coordinate efforts to promote sustainable cocoa production while protecting Ghana's forests.
