Professor Maurizio Ferrera is a Full Professor of Political Science at the University of Milan, where he specializes in comparative politics, public policy, the welfare state, and European integration. He serves as President of the Network for the Advancement of Social and Political Studies (NASP) and is the Scientific Director of the EuVisions Observatory. Currently, he is the Principal Investigator for the ERC Synergy Grant SOLID and coordinates the H2020 project EUSOCIALCIT. Since 2004, he has been a regular columnist for the Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera. His extensive academic career includes previous roles such as Head of the e-Learning Strategy Unit at the UK Department for Education and Skills and various advisory positions for the Italian government and European Commission. Ferrera has published numerous articles in leading international journals and authored several influential books, including The Boundaries of Welfare (2005) and La Società del Quinto Stato (2019). His research focuses on EU social governance, social citizenship, and the dynamics of welfare state development across Europe.
