A Pioneer in Cloud Computing and Open Source Innovation
Matt Rutkowski serves as STSM (Senior Technical Staff Member) at IBM, where he has spent over 20 years developing open infrastructure and industry standards. As CTO of Serverless Technologies and IBM's lead representative to the Open Source Security Foundation (OpenSSF), he drives innovation in cloud computing and security. His significant contributions include founding and chairing the Apache OpenWhisk serverless computing project, where he serves as a Project Management Committee member and committer. At IBM, he leads the Austin site's Open Source Software initiatives while managing ecosystem development for various cloud technologies. His expertise spans cloud orchestration, security, and compliance standards, having chaired and edited key standards including OASIS TOSCA and DMTF Cloud Auditing (CADF). Prior to his cloud focus, he worked in IBM's Emerging Technologies team, developing solutions for diverse sectors including banking, digital media, and government. Currently, he educates IBM teams on work group activities and strategic open source projects, while maintaining his role in advancing serverless computing technologies and standards. His work at OpenSSF includes maintaining the Securing Critical Projects working group and contributing to industry-wide security initiatives.
