Mathias Hinke studied composition at the Manhattan School of Music in New York, art history and musicology at Humboldt Universität in Berlin, and physics at Freie Universität Berlin. Since 2003, he has collaborated with numerous public schools in Berlin, helping to develop their arts and music departments. As a member of the "Querklang" team since 2011, he has organized experimental music and pedagogy seminars for teachers, composers, and students at Universität der Künste Berlin. After holding a guest professorship in the composition department from 2015 to 2016, he joined the faculty in fall 2016. Hinke has composed music for renowned orchestras and ensembles, including the Opera de Bellas Artes in Mexico, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Düsseldorfer Symphony Orchestra, Heidelberg Philharmonic Orchestra, Hamburg Symphony Orchestra, Orquesta Sinfónica Nacional de México, Manhattan Chamber Orchestra, Sonar Quartett, KNM Ensemble, Hayom Ensemble, and MAS Sextett. His work has been featured at festivals such as Märzmusik Berlin, Gaudeamus Muziekweek in the Netherlands, and Kallio New Music Days in Helsinki. In addition to orchestral and ensemble compositions, he has written film scores and created new music for individuals without formal musical training. Recently, he has conducted workshops in experimental composition at institutions like National Junior College in Singapore, Northwestern University, and the "Happy New Ears" congress in Mannheim, and he frequently serves as a guest juror at the Sibelius Academy in Finland.
