The International Monetary FundMary Goodman is a seasoned financial expert currently serving as Assistant Director and Chief of the Debt Capital Markets Division in the IMF's Monetary and Capital Markets Department. Her career spans both public service and private sector roles, bringing a unique perspective to global financial management. At the IMF, which she joined in 2014, she leads initiatives focused on sovereign debt risk assessment, capacity building, and debt policy implementation. From 2020-2023, she served as Mission Chief for Kenya and co-headed the African Department's Debt Group, where she played a crucial role in addressing debt issues across the continent. Prior to the IMF, Goodman accumulated 13 years of capital markets experience at Moore Capital Management and as managing director of a global liquid credit fund. Her distinguished public service career includes serving as Special Assistant to President Obama for Financial Markets at the National Economic Council during the Global Financial Crisis, working closely with Treasury Secretary Geithner to stabilize the US financial system. Earlier in her career, from 1991-1998, she served at the US Treasury Department as the US Paris Club negotiator and G7 Debt Expert. Goodman's academic credentials include an MSFS from Georgetown University with distinction and a BA from Stanford University with honors. She has also contributed to academia by teaching graduate-level courses on International Financial Institutions at Georgetown University.
