Delft University of TechnologyMarjolein van Esch serves as an Assistant Professor of Environmental Technology and Design at TU Delft's Faculty of Architecture and the Built Environment, where she also leads the Climate Change Adaptation program within TU Delft's Climate Action Initiative. After completing her PhD on urban microclimates in 2015, she has established herself as a leading authority in climate-responsive urban design. Her research and teaching focus on climate adaptation measures, the Urban Heat Island (UHI) effect, heat stress mitigation, and the impact of urban climate on building energy use. She actively bridges academic research with practical applications through involvement in significant projects like the Van Leeuwenhoekpark in Delft and the Urban Climate Arboreta in Delft, Almere, and Dordrecht. Her work emphasizes the crucial role of urban design in shaping microclimate at street and neighborhood levels, combining scientific knowledge with practical design solutions to create more climate-resilient urban environments
