The International Monetary FundMaria Oliva currently serves as Deputy Division Chief in the IMF's Western Hemisphere Department and Mission Chief for Guatemala, bringing extensive expertise in financial and monetary policy. Her career at the International Monetary Fund began in 2005, where she has held various significant positions, including leading Financial Stability Assessments (FSAPs) for multiple countries such as the Democratic Republic of Congo, Mauritania, and Jamaica, as well as serving as deputy mission chief for Germany and Mexico FSAPs. Her work encompasses technical assistance on debt and reserve management, and she has been involved in numerous IMF program country missions, including Greece and Iraq. Before joining the IMF, she worked at the European Central Bank focusing on G-20 relations and Asia, the World Economic Forum, and in academia. Her academic credentials include a Ph.D. from Universitat Pompeu Fabra (1997), a post-doctoral fellowship from MIT Sloan School (2000), and an M.Sc. in Mathematical Finance from Oxford University (2005). Her research contributions include publications on managing remittance inflows, foreign exchange interventions, and international trade, with notable works published by Oxford University Press and co-editing the ECB book on Regional Economic Integration in a Global Framework.
