Distinguished Aerospace Engineer and Flight Optimization Expert

Universidad Carlos III de Madrid (UC3M)Manuel Soler serves as Associate Professor and Director of the PhD Program in Aerospace Engineering at Universidad Carlos III de Madrid. His research focuses on optimal control, stochastic hybrid systems, and trajectory optimization for space missions and flight planning. After completing his PhD in Aerospace Engineering, he has established himself as a leading expert in air navigation and control systems. His work has earned significant recognition, including the SESAR Young Scientist Award in 2013 and the Luis Azcarraga Award in 2016 and 2019. As leader of the Air Navigation and Control research line, he has directed numerous projects including POTRA, SESEAR WP-E HALA!, and OPTMET, while maintaining strong industry connections through consultancy work with Boeing and Innaxis. His teaching portfolio encompasses undergraduate and graduate courses in air navigation, flight mechanics, control systems, and air transport. His international experience includes visiting scholar positions at ETH Zurich and UC Berkeley, contributing to his comprehensive understanding of global aerospace challenges. Currently supervising three PhD students, he continues to advance the field through research in aviation environmental impact and meteorological uncertainty in flight planning.
