Mairi Walker

Mairi Walker served as the Mathematics Engagement Officer at the University of Edinburgh from January 2016 to March 2017, where she led the development of the "Statistics: Unlocking the World of Data" MOOC. Her academic background includes a mathematics degree from the University of Warwick, with a focus on the history of mathematics, and a PhD from The Open University exploring the intersection of geometry and number theory. Walker's expertise spans public engagement in mathematics, online course development, and secondary school teaching. At Edinburgh, she contributed to innovative educational initiatives, including appearing on the BBC World Service program "More or Less" to discuss mathematical concepts. Since leaving Edinburgh, Walker has continued her work in mathematics education, teaching at the secondary level and at the University of Warwick. Her current project involves creating an online mathematics course tailored for UK school-leavers entering industry placements, demonstrating her ongoing commitment to bridging academic mathematics with practical applications.
