IIT BombayDr. M.D. Atrey is a Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at IIT Bombay, specializing in Refrigeration and Cryogenic Engineering. He joined IIT Bombay in 2005 as an Associate Professor and was promoted to full Professor in 2009. Atrey's academic journey began at IIT Bombay, where he earned his Ph.D. in 1991, followed by post-doctoral research at the University of Giessen, Germany. Before his academic career, he gained 12 years of valuable industry experience. His research focuses on low-temperature systems, including cryogenic heat exchangers, heat pipes at low temperatures, and cryosurgery. Atrey has developed various low-temperature systems for applications such as gas cooling, condensation, magnet cooling, and electronics cooling. At IIT Bombay, he teaches undergraduate courses in Thermodynamics and Refrigeration and Air Conditioning, as well as graduate-level Cryogenic Engineering.
