Louise Sandhaus is a distinguished faculty member in the Graphic Design Program at CalArts, where she previously served as Program Director. She is the founder of LSD (Louise Sandhaus Design), a design office that collaborates across various disciplines to create interpretive projects that range from simple to complex, working with notable clients such as the Los Angeles County Museum of Art and the UCLA Hammer Museum. Louise authored the critically acclaimed book Earthquakes, Mudslides, Fires and Riots: California and Graphic Design 1936-1986, which highlights the unique graphic design landscape of California. Her contributions to the field extend beyond design; her writings have been featured in prominent publications like Metropolis and the Information Design Handbook, and her work is included in prestigious collections such as the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. A former board member of AIGA and Chair of the AIGA Design Educators Community, Louise holds an MFA in Graphic Design from California Institute of the Arts and a Graduate Laureate from the Jan Van Eyck Akademie in The Netherlands. Her dedication to graphic design education and her impactful projects continue to inspire students and professionals alike.
