Loren Terveen

Dr. Loren Terveen is a Professor of Computer Science at the University of Minnesota, where he specializes in human-computer interaction and social computing. He earned his Ph.D. in Computer Sciences from the University of Texas at Austin and has an extensive background that includes 11 years at AT&T Labs/Bell Labs. Dr. Terveen is a prolific researcher with over 100 scientific papers to his name and nine patents. He has served in numerous leadership roles, including as President of ACM’s Special Interest Group on Computer-Human Interaction, and has consulted on various intellectual property cases.His current research focuses on peer production systems and the quantitative analysis of social media data. Dr. Terveen has led significant projects that have enhanced our understanding of content creation on platforms like Wikipedia, developed new interface designs to boost participation in online communities, and created innovative location-based messaging systems. He teaches several courses on Coursera, including "Evaluating User Interfaces" and "Introduction to UI Design," aimed at equipping students with essential skills in user experience design.
