University of AdelaideLinda Gowing served as Associate Professor in the Discipline of Pharmacology at the University of Adelaide and Principal Research Officer at Drug and Alcohol Services South Australia (DASSA) before retiring in November 2020. Her two-decade career in addiction treatment research focused on evidence-based practices and systematic reviews. As a key member of the Cochrane Drugs and Alcohol Group editorial board, she authored numerous influential systematic reviews on addiction treatment, particularly focusing on opioid dependence management. Her work includes significant contributions to understanding pharmacological interventions for substance use disorders, with highly cited publications on global addiction statistics and treatment effectiveness. Beyond research, she mentored researchers across Thailand, China, USA and Australia in systematic review methodology while contributing to evidence-based guidelines development. Her experience in health care policy, gained through work with the Australian Commonwealth Department of Health, including leadership of the illicit drug policy section, enhanced her ability to translate research into practical treatment applications. Her expertise spanned critical appraisal of addiction treatment research, evidence-based practice implementation, and medical education, making her a respected voice in both academic and clinical settings.
