Dr. Leonard E. White is an Associate Professor at Duke University, where he explores brain development during early life and examines the connections between neural circuit structures and their functional properties. His research has been published in prestigious scientific journals, and he is a co-author of the digital atlas of the human brain (Sylvius) as well as a leading neuroscience textbook published by Sinauer Associates, Inc. Dr. White directs on-campus versions of the MedNeuroMOOC for health professions students at Duke's School of Medicine and co-directs an undergraduate major in Neuroscience while teaching courses in Functional Neuroanatomy and Neurohumanities, including a program in Paris. Joining Duke University in 1992 after earning his Ph.D. in neural biology from Washington University in St. Louis, he completed postdoctoral studies in the Department of Neurobiology at Duke before becoming a faculty member in 1999. He has been instrumental in developing foundational coursework in neuroscience and functional neuroanatomy and serves as the director of education at the Duke Institute for Brain Sciences. Dr. White has received numerous accolades for his teaching excellence, including multiple Golden Apple Awards from medical students and the Master Clinician/Teacher Award from the Duke University School of Medicine.
