Pioneering Research in Nutritional and Molecular Epidemiology
Dr. Leanne Küpers has established herself as a distinguished researcher in nutritional and molecular epidemiology, with expertise spanning cardiovascular diseases, obesity, prenatal development, and epigenetics. Her academic journey began with a BSc in nutrition and dietetics from HAN University of Applied Sciences in 2009, followed by an MSc in nutrition and health from Wageningen University in 2011. She earned her PhD cum laude in 2016 from the University of Groningen, focusing on early life environment, epigenetics, and childhood overweight. Her career trajectory includes significant positions at the University Medical Center Groningen, where she managed the GECKO Drenthe birth cohort, and at the Medical Research Council Integrative Epidemiology Unit at the University of Bristol. Currently at Wageningen University & Research, she integrates molecular epidemiology with nutritional research, particularly studying kidney function decline in post-myocardial infarction patients and mother-child interactions. Her work has garnered international recognition through her involvement in the Pregnancy and Child Epigenetics consortium and her contributions to numerous scientific publications. As of 2023, she has transitioned to a role as Adviseur Kennisinstituut at the Federatie Medisch Specialisten in Utrecht, continuing her impact on medical research and healthcare policy.
