Prof. Katafygiotis is a Professor of Civil Engineering at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST). He earned his undergraduate Diploma in Civil Engineering from the National Technical University of Athens and pursued his postgraduate studies at the California Institute of Technology, where he received both his MSc and Ph.D. A structural engineer, his expertise spans structural dynamics, including earthquake engineering, stochastic dynamics, model updating, structural health monitoring, and structural reliability. He has extensive experience teaching structural engineering courses, such as Statics, Mechanics of Materials, Structural Analysis, and Dynamics, and has received numerous teaching awards. With nearly two hundred journal and conference papers published, he has been honored with several research awards, including the Junior Research Prize in System Identification from the International Association for Structural Safety and Reliability (IASSAR) and the Senior Research Prize in Computational Methods in Structural Dynamics from the European Association for Structural Dynamics (EASD). He is married with one daughter and two sons.
