Lambros Katafygiotis has established himself as a leading authority in structural engineering and dynamics at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, where he serves as Professor of Civil Engineering. After earning his undergraduate diploma from the National Technical University of Athens and completing his MSc and Ph.D. at the California Institute of Technology, he has made significant contributions to the field of structural engineering. His research spans multiple areas including earthquake engineering, stochastic dynamics, structural health monitoring, and reliability analysis, with over 200 published journal and conference papers garnering more than 8,900 citations. His excellence in both research and teaching has earned him prestigious recognition, including the Junior Research Prize from IASSAR for System Identification and the Senior Research Prize from EASD for Computational Methods in Structural Dynamics. At HKUST, he teaches core engineering courses including Statics, Mechanics of Material, Structural Analysis, and Dynamics, while maintaining an active research program in structural modeling and system identification. His work has significantly influenced the field of structural engineering, particularly in Bayesian approaches to structural health monitoring and reliability analysis.
