A Pioneer in Digital Approaches to Chinese Literary and Performance Studies
Dr. Kevin Conrad Schoenberger Jr. serves as Assistant Professor in the Department of Chinese Culture at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, where he brings innovative digital approaches to the study of pre-modern Chinese literature. After earning his PhD from Yale University in 2013 specializing in pre-modern Chinese literature, he held research positions at Harvard University and The University of the South. His current research combines cognitive science methodologies with digital humanities techniques to analyze musical and prosodic elements in traditional Chinese poetry and performance. His ongoing work includes a collaborative book project on the late-Ming artist Xu Wei, supported by the American Council of Learned Societies and the Chiang Ching-kuo Foundation. He recently received funding for his project "Developing Digital Approaches to the Study of Language and Music Interaction in Traditional Chinese Drama," which explores the intersection of linguistics and musicology in Chinese theatrical traditions
