Her academic journey began with a PhD in Wine Science and Analytical Chemistry from Flinders University and the Australian Wine Research Institute. Her research focuses on wine flavor chemistry, particularly investigating challenges facing the wine industry such as bushfire smoke impact on grape quality and oak barrel maturation processes. As an educator, she teaches in the Bachelor of Viticulture and Oenology and Masters of Wine Business programs, and led the development of Wine101x, an award-winning MOOC offered worldwide via edX
