Distinguished Gastrointestinal Surgeon and Surgical Education Pioneer
Professor Kent-Man Chu serves as Professor of Surgery and Director of both the Surgical Endoscopy Service and the Centre for Education and Training at The University of Hong Kong's Department of Surgery at Queen Mary Hospital. Since graduating from The University of Hong Kong in 1987, he has established himself as a leading authority in upper gastrointestinal surgery and surgical education. His pioneering contributions include developing intracorporeal hand-sewn suture anastomosis techniques for laparoscopic gastrectomy and advancing surgical education methodologies, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic through web-based surgical skills learning programs. As former Chief of the Division of Upper Gastrointestinal Surgery, his expertise spans peptic ulcer diseases, gastric tumors, and advanced endoscopic procedures. His commitment to surgical education is evidenced through his leadership of the Centre for Education and Training, where he has implemented innovative teaching methods to train the next generation of surgeons while maintaining active clinical practice and research in gastrointestinal surgery.
