Kathleen H. Sienko, Arthur F. Thurnau Professor of Mechanical Engineering, Program Director for Design Science, and Co-Founder of the Center for Socially Engaged Engineering & Design at the University of Michigan, is a global leader in engineering design with a focus on global health challenges. With a Ph.D. in Medical Engineering and Bioastronautics from Harvard-MIT and experience spanning aeronautics and engineering innovation, Kathleen leads the Global Health Design Initiative (GHDI) and directs the Sienko Research Group. She also serves on the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine’s Board on Global Health. Her course, "Introduction to Socially Engaged Design," provides insight into integrating social contexts and equitable design solutions into engineering work.
