Katherine Downton serves as Head of Research, Education and Outreach Services at the University of Maryland, Baltimore's Health Sciences & Human Services Library, where she leads a team of librarians supporting multiple health science schools including Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, Dentistry, and Social Work. With a Master's in Library and Information Science from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, she has established herself as an expert in systematic reviews and evidence-based research methodologies. Her expertise includes providing specialized search services, participating in systematic review teams, and training healthcare professionals in evidence-based research techniques. Her contributions to academic research include developing research data management services and providing essential support for health sciences education. As an experienced education coordinator, she has worked across diverse health and social science fields, demonstrating her commitment to advancing health sciences education and research through library services.
