McNamara serves as Professor in the Government Department and School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University, where she previously directed the Mortara Center for International Studies and currently co-directs the Global Political Economy Project. After earning her BA from McGill University and PhD from Columbia University, she has established herself as a preeminent authority on European Union politics and international political economy. Her influential books include "The Currency of Ideas: Monetary Politics in the European Union" (1998) and "The Politics of Everyday Europe" (2015), which have shaped scholarly understanding of European integration
