Justin Lessler, PhD, MS

Dr. Justin Lessler is an Associate Professor in the Department of Epidemiology at Johns Hopkins University, where he focuses on the development and application of statistical models to understand and control infectious diseases. His research emphasizes creating synergies between infection control practices, data collection, and the dynamics of infectious diseases. Dr. Lessler has made significant contributions to estimating incubation periods for various viruses using coarse data, which has improved infection control practices globally. His current projects include studying the transmission dynamics of influenza in southern China and optimizing vaccine use for measles and cholera.In addition to his research, Dr. Lessler teaches courses such as "Measuring and Maximizing Impact of COVID-19 Contact Tracing" and "Outbreaks and Epidemics" on Coursera.
