Julia Hockenmaier is a Professor and Willett Faculty Scholar in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. She specializes in Artificial Intelligence, particularly in natural language processing (NLP) and computational linguistics. Dr. Hockenmaier teaches several courses, including CS 440 (Artificial Intelligence), CS 447 (Natural Language Processing), and CS 546 (Machine Learning in NLP). She has a Ph.D. in Informatics from the University of Edinburgh and has conducted postdoctoral research at the University of Pennsylvania. Her recent work includes exploring AI models' capabilities and limitations, as well as contributing to projects like the Amazon-Illinois Center on AI for Interactive Conversational Experiences. Dr. Hockenmaier is actively involved in research that addresses various aspects of NLP, including information extraction and multimodal learning, and she has published extensively in her field.
