Leading Expert in Environmental Engineering and Anaerobic Wastewater Treatment
Jules van Lier serves as a Full Professor of Environmental Engineering and Wastewater Treatment at TU Delft's Sanitary Engineering Section, while also holding a position at UNESCO-IHE Institute for Water Education. After completing his PhD on Thermophilic Anaerobic Wastewater Treatment at Wageningen University in 1995, he has established himself as a prominent figure in environmental engineering. His research focuses on developing cost-effective water treatment technologies for resource recovery, particularly in closing water cycles in industries and sewage water recovery for irrigated agriculture. With over 200 publications in peer-reviewed journals since 1988, his work has significantly influenced the field of anaerobic treatment technology. He maintains several prestigious positions, including Executive Board Member of the LeAF Foundation, regional representative for Western Europe in IWA's Anaerobic Digestion Specialist group, editor for Water Science Technology, and member of both the Paques Technological Advisory Commission and World-Waternet Advisory Board. His contributions to the field have earned him recognition as an IWA Fellow, and his research continues to advance sustainable solutions for water treatment and resource recovery.
