Leading French Obesity Researcher Advances Understanding of Metabolic Disease
Dr. Judith Aron-Wisnewsky serves as Associate Professor of Nutrition at Sorbonne Université and Hospital Practitioner in the Nutrition Department at Pitié-Salpêtrière Hospital (AP-HP). Her research focuses on severe obesity and its complications, particularly investigating the role of gut microbiota in cardiometabolic diseases. As a key researcher at the Institute of Cardiometabolism and Nutrition (ICAN), she leads numerous national and European research projects examining bariatric surgery outcomes, metabolic disorders, and gut microbiome interactions. Her recent work has revealed important findings about weight loss patterns after sleeve gastrectomy in diabetic patients and the persistence of liver fibrosis despite significant weight loss following bariatric surgery. Through her dual role in clinical practice and research, she contributes significantly to understanding obesity-related complications and developing more effective treatments, while also participating in major European research initiatives investigating the relationship between gut microbiota and cardiometabolic diseases.
