Jon Vernick is a Professor of Health Policy and Management at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and serves as Co-Director of the MPH/JD Program. He is the primary instructor for courses on Injury and Violence Prevention and Public Health and the Law. His research focuses on the intersection of law, policy, and public health, particularly examining how legal interventions can reduce firearm violence and other injuries. His work includes evaluating state gun laws, analyzing firearm policy, and addressing the epidemiological, legal, and ethical aspects of violence prevention. Vernick was the lead author of an amicus brief on behalf of public health organizations in District of Columbia v. Heller, which was cited by Justice Breyer. He has authored over 100 scholarly articles and reports addressing topics such as motor vehicle safety, tobacco policy, and public health preparedness. Committed to translating research into actionable policy, Vernick works closely with legislators, media outlets, courts, and advocates to promote evidence-based solutions. Jon Vernick earned his BA from Johns Hopkins University, a JD with honors from George Washington University, and an MPH from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.
