Smith Endowed Chair and Chief Medical Officer at Georgetown's Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center, where he has established himself as an internationally recognized expert in gastrointestinal cancer treatment and drug development. After completing his medical training at Duke University, the University of Louisville, and Georgetown University, he has led over 150 clinical trials as Principal Investigator, focusing on precision medicine approaches to cancer treatment. As the founding Director of the Otto J Ruesch Center for the Cure of GI Cancers since 2009, he has championed innovative research, personalized medicine, and patient advocacy. His leadership extends to serving as the Physician Executive Director of the MedStar Washington DC Integrated Hematology-Oncology Division and establishing the Precision Oncology Alliance in 2015 to study molecular profiling's impact on cancer research. His personal connection to cancer medicine, including losing his mother to non-Hodgkin lymphoma at age 14 and supporting his wife through breast cancer treatment, has shaped his compassionate approach to patient care. In 2021, he co-authored "Off Our Chests" with his wife, offering unique insights into cancer medicine from both physician and caregiver perspectives.
