John Gyakum is a Professor and Chair of the Department of Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences at McGill University, specializing in synoptic-dynamic meteorology with a focus on cyclones, including hurricanes and middle-latitude cyclones. His research interests encompass extreme precipitation events, such as severe ice storms and heavy flooding, as well as droughts, arctic air mass generation, and weather forecasting. Since joining McGill University in 1987, he has established himself as one of Canada’s leading researchers in synoptic-dynamic meteorology.
